The Lighthouse and the Whaler is a band from Cleveland, Ohio, combining elements of folk and indie rock. The group was formed in 2008 by singer and guitarist Michael LoPresti, and they gained their first bit of exposure when their first song “The Field Song” was included as part of a Paste Magazine Sampler CD. Soon after, the group recorded their full-length self-titled debut. After touring the festival circuit and opening for bands such as The Temper Trap and Motion City Soundtrack, The Lighthouse and the Whaler released their second album This Is an Adventure in 2012. The album increased the group’s reach, as their music appeared on shows like CSI:NY and Gossip Girl. The album charted on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and was followed by an EP of remixes in June 2014. In January 2015, The Lighthouse and the Whaler recorded their third album Mont Royal, which continued to expand the group’s sound, including songs such as the ethereal and anthemic album closer “We Are Infinite,” which later featured prominently in the Amazon Prime animated show Invincible. In 2020, The Lighthouse and the Whaler released an EP of outtakes titled Brothers. This was followed by the hopeful single “When We Meet,” released in 2021.
