Alternative rock band The Local Train was formed in Chandigarh, India in 2008. They are known for blending Hindi music with rock and have stated that that their goal is to ‘put the Hindi in the indie.’ Founded by bassist Ramit Mehra, vocalist / guitarist Raman Negi, drummer Sahil Sarin, and guitarist Abhinav Bansal. The group began to write, record, and release singles online including “Choo Lo.” In 2011, lead guitarist Paras Thakur replaced Bansal and the band relocated to Delhi. The band continued to release singles – including “Aaoge Tum Kabhi” and “Kaisy Jiyun” – before issuing their debut album, Aalas Ka Pedh, in 2015. The album became one of the biggest selling Indian rock albums of the year. In 2017, their “Khudi” single was supported by a video that won Platinum Film of the Year from the 2017 India Film Project Awards. In January 2018, The Local Train released their second album Vaaqif, which included the single “Ghustaakh.” A popular live act, The Local Train played several festivals as well as regular venues and toured India several times. Lead singer / guitarist Raman Negi left the group in April 2022 to pursue a solo career. The three remaining members of the band chose to continue as The Local Train.
