The Murmurs

The Murmurs were an American alternative pop duo consisting of Leisha Hailey and Heather Grody, who began performing in 1991. Their debut album, Who Are We, was released in 1991, leading to popularity around the East Village in Manhattan. After signing with MCA Records in 1994, they expanded into a four-woman group and released two albums, Pristine Smut (1997) and Blender (1998). Hailey and Grody formed the band Gush in 2001, releasing one self-titled album. Hailey pursued acting from 2004 to 2009, starring as Alice Pieszecki on The L Word, while also performing with Camila Grey in Uh Huh Her until 2016. Grody, now known as Heather Reid, formed Redcar with Jon Skibic and others in 2007, releasing a debut album produced by Grammy-winning producer Greg Collins. Reid has since worked as a songwriter for other artists and released a solo album, Cross Words, in 2014. Reid was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2018 but is now considered healed after treatment. She recorded the single "Right Here Right Now" in 2020, inspired by her cancer journey.
