Hailing from the German region of Bavaria, The Notwist brings together Markus and Micha Acher, Martin Messerschmidt and Martin Gretschmann. After metal-oriented beginnings, as evidenced by the albums Nook (1992) and 12 (1995), the band moved towards more pop and accessible sounds, of which Neon Golden (2001) is a successful example. 2008 saw the release of The Devil, You + Me. It took six years for The Notwist to return with an increasingly contemplative rock sound on the 2014 album Close to the Glass. The following year, the minimalist parenthesis Messier Objects brought together instrumental pieces composed for theater or radio. In 2016, the band decided to release a live album, the first of its career: Superheroes, Ghostvillains + Stuff.
