The Steve McQueens are an R&B and jazz-funk group from Singapore. Founded in 2013, the band started off as a jazz trio featuring lead singer Eugenia Yip, keyboardist Joshua Wan, and bassist Ben Poh. After recruiting guitarist Marcus Szeto and percussionist Bobby Singh, The Steve McQueens made their official live debut as a band at the Sultan Jazz Club. Eventually, Poh and Singh were replaced by Jase Sng and Anson Koh, respectively, consolidating the group’s lineup. Their studio debut Einstein Moments saw the light in 2013 and generated a lot of buzz in the Singaporean underground music scene. The Steve McQueens’ performance at the 2014 Singapore Jazz Festival garnered the attention of acid jazz pioneer Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick, who invited them to his Livingston studio to record their sophomore effort, Seamonster. The album had a European release in 2015 via Maunick’s record label, Splash Blue, and its Asian edition was issued by Foundation Music. In 2016, The Steve McQueens added guitarist Andrew Lim to their ranks and headed back to the studio to begin working on their third full-length, Terrarium. Released in 2017, Terrarium included the fan favorite “Cosmic Terrain,” which reached Number 13 on the Singaporean charts. Subsequently, The Steve McQueens returned in 2020 with the EP Tape Ends.
