The third child of the Jackson siblings, Toriano Aradyll "Tito" Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana, on October 15, 1953. He taught himself to play guitar, before being recruited by his father Joseph Jackson into the band formed in 1964 with his older brother Jackie and younger brothers Jermaine, Marlon and Michael. From 1969 to 1975, The Jackson 5 enjoyed a string of hits in the 1960s, including "I Want You Back", "ABC" and "I'll Be There", culminating in the album Dancing Machine. After the change of label from Motown Records to CBS, the group, which welcomed Randy Jackson in Jermaine's place, renamed itself The Jacksons, without losing any of its popularity, which continued with the albums The Jacksons (1976), Destiny (1978), Triumph (1980) and Victory (1984), while Michael, on the strength of his "King of Pop" status with the album Thriller (1982), took over from the siblings. Guitarist, keyboardist and composer, Tito Jackson was the architect of the group's shift from soul to rock and synthetic funk, which made its final appearance on the album 2300 Jackson Street (1989). Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the other members in 1997, Tito Jackson began a late solo career in 2003, resulting in two albums, Tito Time (2016) featuring contributions from Big Daddy Kane, Jocelyn Brown, Betty Wright and the band 3T, and Under Your Spell (2018), in the blues and rock style he favors. On September 15, 2024, while driving to Oklahoma, Tito Jackson dies of a heart attack in Gallup, New Mexico, at the age of 70.
