Tokyo Girls' Style

Japanese girl group Tokyo Girls' Style (東京女子流, Tōkyō Joshi Ryū) (stylized as TOKYO GIRLS' STYLE) was formed in 2009 as the first idol group steered by Japanese entertainment giant Avex Trax following the demise of SweetS. Originally comprising five members, Miyu Yamabe, Hitomi Arai, Yuri Nakae, Konishi Ayano and Mei Shyoj – with Konishi Ayano later retiring in 2015 – the group's early music fed the prevailing appetite for candy-coated idol group fare, and they sailed through the charts, with their debut single of 2010, "Kirari" (キラリ☆, lit. "Sparkling"), reaching number 30 on Japan's Oricon chart and their first album of 2011, Kodou no Himitsu, peaking at number 25. They went on to release four more albums as a quintet – 2012's Limited addiction, 2013's Yakusoku (約束), 2014's Killing Me Softly, and 2015's Reflection – until Konishi Ayano announced her retirement from the music business in December 2015, citing ongoing health concerns. The group returned in 2022 with a comeback album, Nocturnal, which went to number 25 on Japan's Oricon chart.
