Although he began releasing music independently in 2016, Tommy Richman shot to fame in 2024, when his breakout single "Million Dollar Baby" topped charts across the world. He was born in Woodbridge, Virginia, on March 21, 2000, and began taking voice lessons as a child. While still a teenager, he released the debut single "Ballin' Stalin" in 2016, introducing a genre-bending sound that mixed together influences like rap, funk, punk rock, pop, and R&B. "Pleasantville," his second single, followed in 2019, and its relative success convinced the young college student to drop out of school and pursue a music career instead. Paycheck, his debut EP, was released in 2022, followed that same year by the full-length album Alligator. He began working with Brent Faiyaz in 2023, signing with the rapper's own label, ISO Supremacy, and appearing on Faiyaz's song "Upset." Also featuring Felix!, "Upset" became a hit in America, where it reached number 33 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. One year later, Richman began uploaded snippets of"Million Dollar Baby" to TikTok, creating a buzz for the upcoming single. When the song was officially released on April 26, 2024, it became an immediate hit, debuting at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in reaching Number 1 on America's Top 15 Streaming R&B Songs. "Million Dollar Baby" was popular abroad, too, topping the charts in both New Zealand and Australia while reaching the Top 10 in a half-dozen countries, including Canada and the United Kingdom. The follow-up track, "Devil Is a Lie", also charted and paved the way for the second album Coyote (2024), featuring guest appearances from Trevor Spitta, Zachary Moon and Mynameisntjmack.
