A blues and country singer and guitarist, Toni Price made her mark on the Texas scene in the 1990s. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 13, 1961, Luiese Esther Price grew up in New Jersey, then moved to Nashville to study, where she played in country bands in the late 1980s. In 1989, she moved to Austin to play at Antone's, whose owner Clifford Antone owns the Antone's label. Since her debut album Swim Away in 1993, she has developed her own style over the decade, blending blues, country and rock, on Hey (1995) and Low Down and Up (1999), followed by Midnight Pumpkin (2001), Born to Be Blue (2003) and Talk Memphis (2007). Although critically acclaimed, she did not achieve the success she had hoped for beyond the initiated. Her last self-produced album, Cherry Sunday Orchestra, was released in 2010. Toni Price died on November 22, 2024 at the age of 63, after suffering from a brain tumor.
