Toshihiko Tahara, born on February 28, 1961, in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a Japanese idol singer, actor, and tarento. Originally from Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, Toshihiko Tahara began his acting career in 1978 and officially debuted as a singer in 1980 with his single "New York City Nights," which peaked at number 2 on the Oricon charts. In the 1980s, Toshihiko Tahara quickly rose to fame with several number 1 singles, including "Koi wa Do!" and "Harajuku Kiss." His energetic performances and dancing skills, along with hits like "Dakishimete Tonight" and "Kakkotsukanai ne," quickly boosted his popularity. In 1983, he received the Japan Music Award for the song "Saraba... Natsu" and starred in the dance show and music documentary Love Forever. Toshihiko Tahara performed at the prestigious NHK year-end program Kōhaku Uta Gassen from 1980 to 1986. Over the years, he released numerous acclaimed albums, including Tahara Toshihiko (1980) and Eve Only (1983), both of which achieved pole position on the Japanese charts. His career continued to thrive with consistent releases, including his 68th single, "Mr. Big," in 2012, marking his comeback to the music industry. In 2013, he released I Am Me!, his first original album in 15 years. He also celebrated the 35th anniversary of his debut in 2014. In 2024, his song "Ai dake Arena Ii" (愛だけがあればいい)" climbed to number 11 on the Oricon Singles Chart.
