Chems Amrouche (vocals and guitar), David Bruley (percussion) and Hassan Abdalrahman (oud) came together in the late 2000s under the name Trio Bassma (meaning smile or imprint). The group draws on the rich heritage of folk music to invent new sounds, influenced by French, Syrian and Iranian cultures, to which are added the poetic lyrics sung by Chems Amrouche. Their debut album, À la croisée des mémoires, was released in March 2012. The popular music they compose, whether inspired by traditional wedding songs or songs of exile, wins over audiences and gives the group the opportunity to perform live. In France, Canada and Jordan, Trio Bassma pay tribute to their rich and varied origins, playing a series of dates before gradually fading from the media spotlight.
