Ttiti Bakorta

Born in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, guitarist Titi Bakorta got his career off to an unexpected start. Rescued from drowning on an expedition to Uganda, he ended up in Kisangani, where he met local star Dancer Papalas, with whom he toured the African music scene from Tanzania to Sudan. Based in Kampala, he fleshed out his traditional Congolese style with modern influences to create the soukous sound of the album Molende (2023), released on the Ugandan label Nyege Nyege Tapes. On the latest track, "Tis Haunted House", Bakorta is joined by producer Jesse Hackett of Metal Preyers. This collaboration is a foretaste of the album Mapambazuko (2025), on which he accompanies Peruvian composer Ale Hop on guitar. The latter met with international acclaim in music critics' circles.
