Ty Dolla $ign is the stage persona of Tyrone William Griffin Jr., the Los Angeles born rapper and hip-hop artist. Griffin first came into the public eye when he featured on 'Toot It and Boot It', the successful debut single from the rapper YG. Griffin co-wrote the song for Def Jam Recordings and his performing part launched his music career eventually leading to his debut album 'Free TC' released in 2015. The album debuted at number 14 on the Billboard listings and the lead single 'Blasé' became one of the Griffin's best known songs and was certified platinum in the US with sales exceeding a million copies. Griffin is the son of musician Tyrone Griffin Sr. who was a member of the well known funk band Lakeside. It was through his father's involvement with the music business that Griffin Jr. met bands like Earth Wind & Fire and Prince, artists who he cites as being significant influences in his future material. He has promoted his own career through a series of carefully chosen collaborations with artists such as Post Malone, Christina Aguilera and Kayne West. Although he is known as a rapper his music contains elements of hip-hop, R&B and soul and during interviews he has stated that he considers himself primarily a singer rather than a rapper.
