Duo formed by brothers Donnie and Johnny Van Zant, the former the leader of the band 38 Special and the latter a member since 1987 of Lynyrd Skynyrd, a band formed back in 1964 by their elder brother, Ronnie Van Zant, who died in the plane crash that also claimed the lives of other musicians on August 20, 1977. The initiative to form a duo came from Johnny Van Zant's own band, The Johnny Van Zant Band, which shortened its name and released a successful debut album, Van Zant, in 1985. Thirteen years later, in 1998, he decided to team up with his older brother Donnie for a supposedly short-lived project, the album Brother to Brother. Given the positive reception it received from the public, the formula was repeated in 2001 with the album Van Zant II. In 2005, the duo moved away from the Southern rock that characterizes the Van Zant name and into country with the album Get It Right to the Man, released on Columbia, which scored several hits and a gold disc. In 2007, My Kind of Country continued the experiment, after a live recording in 2006 that was not released until 2016, Red White & Blue. After retiring from 38 Special for health reasons in 2013, Donnie Van Zant reunited with Johnny for a new album by the duo, this time marked by the Christian faith, Always Look Up (2024).
