Vanilla Ninja

Vanilla Ninja is an Estonian pop-rock band that was founded in Tallinn in 2002. The original line-up consists of Maarja Kivi (born on January 18, 1986 in Tallinn), Lenna Kuurmaa (born on September 26, 1985 in Tallinn), Katrin Siska (born on December 10, 1983 in Tallinn) and Piret Järvis (born on February 6, 1984 in Tallinn). Maarja Kivi leaves the band in 2004 and is replaced by Triinu Kivilaan (born January 13, 1989 in Viljandi). The band mainly plays pop rock with influences from hard rock and glam rock. Their debut album Vanilla Ninja is released in 2003 and contains songs in English and Estonian. Their breakthrough came with the single "Tough Enough", which was released in 2003 and reached number 13 in the charts in Germany. The second album Traces of Sadness followed in 2004 and entered the album charts in Germany at number 3. Other successful singles from this album are "When the Indians Cry" and "Liar". in 2005, they represented Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Cool Vibes" and reached 8th place. In the same year, they released the album Blue Tattoo, which reached number 4 in the charts in Germany. The single of the same name, "Blue Tattoo", is also a hit. Their fourth album Love Is War is released in 2006 and reaches number 16 in the charts in Germany. After a longer break, the band returns in 2021 with the album Encore. The current line-up consists of Lenna Kuurmaa, Piret Järvis and Kerli Kivilaan. Vanilla Ninja is known for their energetic live performances and catchy melodies, which have earned them a loyal fan base in Europe.
