Véronique Gens

Operatic soprano Véronique Gens – born in Orléans, France on April 19, 1966 – is considered one of the greatest voices of the end of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st century. At the beginning of her career, her repertoire consisted of mostly Baroque material and a nod to Mozart. She studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and won first place honors. Discovered by William Christie in 1987, she remained faithful to the baroque era before approaching the classical and romantic periods. Her triumphant performance in the Mozart opera Don Giovanni at the Aix-en-Provence festival earned her the title of Lyric Artist of the Year at the Victoires de la musique classique in 1999. Véronique Gens’ performances in various other operas brought her great success. Her catalog consists of many acclaimed releases including Rameau: Les Grands Motets (1994), Purcell: Dido & Aenaes (1995), Brossard: Leçons des Morts (1997), Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro (2004), Tragédiennes (2006), Tragédiennes Vol. 2 (2009), Tragédiennes Vol. 3 (2011), and Passion: Lully, Charpentier & Desmarets (2021), her long-awaited return to baroque.
