Armed with just a guitar, his voice, and a loop pedal, Vianney Bureau (born on February 13, 1991), or simply Vianney, took the French music scene by storm with his sunny disposition and honey-glazed earworms. Born into a musical household, Bureau started writing his own material at age 12, influenced by artists like George Brassens, François Béranger, and Rickie Lee Jones, and held his first concert in 2007. Shortly after finishing his bachelor’s degree in 2009, he relocated to London for three years to finish his business degree. Upon his return from the English capital in 2011, he met soon-to-be manager Isabelle Vaudey, who encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Recorded with Antoine Essertier behind the console, Idées Blanches (2014), Bureau’s studio debut, spawned the singles “Je te déteste” and “Pas là,” which peaked at Number 113 and 18 on the French Singles Chart, respectively. The album’s success helped the young artist win the W9 Talent Award and earn a nomination for Revelation of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique Awards the following year. In 2016, his eponymous sophomore effort went straight to the top of the French Album Charts, aided by the singles “Moi aimer toi” and “Je m’en vais,” a heartbreaking ballad that reached Number 2 on the French charts and won a Victoires de la Musique Award for Best Song. During that ceremony, he was also awarded the Male Artist of the Year prize, crowning what was already an outstanding year in terms of accolades. Following the release of the live album Le Concert (2018), Bureau inaugurated the new decade with the single “N’attendons pas,” the title track of his highly-anticipated third album.
