Victoria Monét – born Victoria Monét McCants in Atlanta, Georgia on May 1, 1993 – is an R&B and pop singer and songwriter. Her family relocated to Sacramento, California, where she became involved in the performing arts including singing and dancing. She sang in a local church’s youth choir before discovering that she had a gift for songwriting. She began to study production and recording at a local studio. She then connected with producer Rodney Jerkins via social media, who invited her to Los Angeles to audition for his new girl group Purple Reign. Victoria Monét passed the audition and the group signed with Motown Records but were dropped within a year without releasing any music. She turned to her songwriting skills to earn money and gain recognition. While working on her own songs and demos, she collaborated on tracks with Nas, T.I., and Eric Bellinger in 2012 and 2013. On the strength of her own demos, she was signed to Atlantic Records, releasing her debut EP Nightmares & Lullabies: Act 1 in 2014. Six months later, she issued the companion EP Nightmares & Lullabies: Act 2 (2015). After touring and more recording, Victoria Monét returned with the Life After Love, Pt. 1 EP in February 2018, and followed that with another EP, Life After Love, Pt. 2, later that same year. In 2019, she was featured on Ariana Grande’s hit single “Monopoly,” which brought her more commercial attention. Her Jaguar EP was released in August 2020 and featured the singles “Ass Like That”, “Moment”, and “Experience” (with Khalid and SG Lewis). The EP reached the number 1 position on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and number 20 on the R&B Albums chart. Four months later, she issued the digital-only release A Jaguar Christmas: The Orchestral Arrangements. In 2023, Victoria Monét released her debut album, Jaguar II, which reached number 6 on the R&B Albums chart and number 60 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album featured collaborations with Lucky Daye, Buju Banton, and Earth, Wind, and Fire.
