VIINI is a South Korean singer, model, and actor. He was born Kwon Hyun-bin on March 4, 1997, in Seoul. He briefly studied in Tokyo, Japan, where he played baseball before returning to South Korea to enroll in Jungkyung High School, focusing on fencing until an injury ended his athletic pursuits. VIINI began his modeling career in 2015 under YG KPlus, appearing in various pictorials, including GQ Korea. His rise to fame accelerated in 2017 when he joined Mnet's survival program Produce 101. This led to his debut with the project boy group JBJ in October 2017 with the extended play Fantasy. In 2018, VIINI transitioned to television, appearing on JTBC's reality program Live a Good Life and MBC's Dunia: Into a New World. The following year, he became a cast member on JTBC's reality show Try It and announced his solo debut under YG Entertainment's subsidiary, YGX. He launched his solo career on August 19, 2019, with the self-composed single "Genie" from the EP Dimension, released later that year. The extended play peaked at number 7 on the South Korean charts. VIINI continued to expand his career in acting, starring in TV series such as Borg Mom, The Red Sleeve, and Pandora: Beneath the Paradise. In 2020 he performed the song "Friends" for the soundtrack to Girl's World. In March 2024, he signed with Ghost Studio and starred in the romantic comedy Love Andante.
