Vilde Frang

Vilde Frang is a Norwegian classical violinist who has gained an international reputation, receiving critical acclaim worldwide and a growing audience for her performances and recordings. Born in Oslo on 19 August 1986, she began playing the violin at the age of four and emerged as a child prodigy, studying in Stockholm and Hamburg and performing at thirteen with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Mariss Jansons. After several concerts in Scandinavia and Germany, her appearance with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007 led to a recording contract. She made her recording debut in 2010 with Sibelius: Violin Concerto; Humoresques; Prokofiev: Violin Concerto No. 1 with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne and conductor Thomas Søndergård. Her other releases include Bartók, Grieg, Strauss: Violin Sonatas (2011) with pianist Michail Lifits, Nielsen, Tchaikovsky: Violin Concertos (2012) with the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Mozart: Violin Concertos 1 & 5; Sinfonia Concertante (2015) with violinist Maxim Rysanov and the Arcangelo Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Cohen and Britten, Korngold: Violin Concertos (2016) with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony conducted by James Gaffigan. Her performance of the Mendelssohn concertos at the Berlin Philharmonic's live Europakonzert 2016 with conductor Simon Rattle won high praise. In 2017, the recital Homage (2017), with pianist José Gallardo, is a tribute to early 20th century violinists. She continues her exploration of the great violin concertos with Bartók in 2018, Beethoven and Stravinsky in 2022 then Elgar in 2024, between collaborations in chamber music and recitals such as Paganini / Schubert (2019).
