Vinicio Capossela

Sometimes considered an Italian Tom Waits, Vinicio Capossela is in fact a totally original musician who blends traditional music, rock, cabaret and Italian song. Vinicio Capossela made his debut in 1990 with All'una E 35 Circa, before gaining international recognition with Camera a Sud in 1994. Vinicio Capossela has become popular in Italy despite his disconcerting style, and has a loyal following all over the world. Ovunque Proteggi in 2006 is one of the highlights of his discography. Da Solo went platinum in Italy in 2008. The double CD Marinai, Profeti e Balene in 2011 is inspired by marine literature, in particular Herman Melville's Moby Dick. Marinai, Profeti e Balene was released in France in May 2012. In 2012, he re-recorded older songs in rebetiko style for Rebetiko Gymnastas, originally recorded in 2007. In 2013, he immersed himself in Greek culture with the film Indebito and the book Tefteri, while also producing Banda della Posta's debut album Primo Ballo and founding the Sponz Fest in Calitri. His literary activities continued with Il paese dei Coppoloni (2015) and his DVD Nel paese dei Coppoloni (2016). In the same year, he released Canzoni della Cupa, a double album exploring the traditional and original music of his father's hometown. He was awarded the Tenco prize in 2017, followed by the 2019 album Ballate per uomini e bestie and the 2020 EP Bestiario d'amore, inspired by medieval poetry. His 2021 book Eclissica looks back on his career, while the Bestiale Comedìa tour celebrates Dante's Divine Comedy. In 2022, he celebrates 30 years of music with concerts at Milan's Blue Note, leading to the Balkangiro tour. His latest album, Tredici canzoni urgenti, was released in April 2023.
