Born in 1958, Russian pianist Vladimir Ovchinnikov won second prize at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in 1982 and first prize at the Leeds International Competition in 1987. In 2005, after recording Rachmaninov's two Études-Tableaux cycles, he was awarded the title of Russian National Artist, and continues to tour the world at the invitation of major orchestras. A specialist in Russian composers, he delivers recordings of Mussorgsky and Prokofiev after his success with Liszt's Études d'exécution transcendante, reissued in 2011.
