Established in 1996, Vox Clamantis is a Grammy-winning Estonian vocal ensemble founded by Jaan-Eik Tulve. Vox Clamantis performs Gregorian chant as well as interpreting the works of modern and contemporary composers including Arvo Pärt. While the line-up’s membership changes, Tulve remains the sole constant member and leader. He originally formed the ensemble after studying Gregorian chant. Vox Clamantis’ original goal was to spread the idea that Gregorian chant could reach ‘beyond its stylistic boundaries and freely blend with the music of modern ages and other cultures.’ The ensemble has worked with Weekend Guitar Trio, oud player Yair Dalal, Tunisian vocalist Dhafer Youssef, and many others. Outside of Gregorian chant, they performed music by Estonian composers including Erkki-Sven Tüür, Sven Grünberg and Helena Tulve. The ensemble’s releases include 2008’s Stella Matutina (with Weekend Guitar Trio), Via Crucis (2012), The Deer’s Cry (2016), Sacrum Convivium (2018), and 2020’s The Suspended Harp of Babel from Cyrillus Kreek's works.
