Born on 13 March 1982 in Asahi, Nagano, the J-pop singer and Japanese voice actor Wataru Hatano is known largely for his work with Tokyo voice talent management firm 81 Produce. Although he has built up an admirable acting portfolio since first launching his career at the start of the new millennium—notably winning the Best Male Rookie Award for his roles as Sam Houston in Toward the Terra and Tenshi Yuri in Saint Beast: Kouin Jojishi Tenshitan at the 2nd Seiyu Awards in 2008—he has also forged a successful career as a singer. He made his official singing debut in December 2011 under his own name with the single "Hajimari no Hi ni" and issued his first full-length album, W, in 2014 on the label DIVE II entertainment, reaching number 25 on Japan's Oricon chart. His sophomore LP, Caravan wa Philia wo Kanaderu, arrived two years later and peaked at number 40 on the same chart while his third album, Futuristic (#39), came out in 2018. With nods to hyperpop and electro-pop, Wataru Hatano's fourth album TORUS landed in November 2022.
