Waxahatchee

Katie Crutchfield, better known as the leader of the indie-folk project Waxahatchee, was born on January 4, 1989, in Birmingham, Alabama. After launching her music career as a member of the punky, teenaged band P.S. Eliot, Crutchfield released her solo record under the Waxahatchee moniker, American Weekend, in 2011. Her heartfelt lyrics and folk-inspired melodies earned a loyal cult following. On her second album, 2013's Cerulean Salt, she expanded Waxahatchee was a full-band project for the first time. Waxahatchee signed to Merge Records in 2015 and released Ivy Tripp, followed by 2017's Out in the Storm and 2020's Saint Cloud. All three albums were Top 10 entries on the Billboard Americana/Folk Albums chart, and Saint Cloud scored a hit single with "Lilacs," which reached number 26 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart. In 2022, Crutchfield teamed up with fellow folksinger Jess Williamson for the collaborative album I Walked with You a Ways, which the two musicians released under the band name Plains. The album's first single, "Problem With It," received moderate airplay in America, and Waxahatchee returned to the Adult Alternative Airplay chart with another collaboration, "Right Back To It," which featured MJ Lenderman. Released in 2024, the song reached number 17 and served as an introduction to Tigers Blood, Waxahatchee's sixth album.
