Widinson Serrano is an Ecuadorian singer who is seen as a pioneer of the Technocumbia genre, which incorporates electronic sounds with a classic cumbia/Latin sound, and is one of the most popular singers in Ecuadorian music history. Beginning his career in 1991, he has forged a career which has seen him record with the legendary group Los Chaucha Kings and break into the Mexican charts (which is seen as notoriously difficult). After cyclist Richard Carpaz became the first Ecuadorian and second Latin American to win the Giro d'Italia, the singer wrote and dedicated his song 'The Cyclist' to his home country's new sporting hero.
