Born in California in 1982 and raised in Texas, Will Butler is the brother of Edwin "Win" Butler, with whom he formed Arcade Fire in 2001. A multi-instrumentalist (he masters synthesizers, guitars, bass and percussion), he came to prominence in 2014 for the soundtrack to the film Her , which he composed with Owen Pallett and earned them an Oscar nomination. A former radio DJ and editor of a poetry magazine, Will Butler goes solo with the album Policy released by Merge Records in March 2015. Recorded in a week at Electric Lady Studios in New York, this debut album is entirely written and, with the exception of drums and a few strings, played by its author.
