William Sheller

The son of an American serviceman and a Normandy woman, William Sheller (born Hand in Paris, July 9, 1946) spent his early years in the jazz clubs where his double-bassist father played, and learned classical piano. A composer at heart, he turned to rock with the group Worst and wrote the hit "My Year Is a Day" for Les Irrésistibles. His solo career began with the pop-rock mass Lux Aeterna (1972), followed by success with "Rock'n'dollars " and "Comme dans un vieux rock'n'roll", while the album Symphonan (1977) heralded his ambition to marry his rock and classical influences with song. This quest for experience led him to perform with a string quartet or alone at the piano, to create a Concerto for cello and orchestra, and to compose for the cinema(Retour en Force). After a symphonic period, symbolized by the album Univers (1986), William Sheller redefined his style in the following productions: Ailleurs (1989), Albion (1994), Les Machines Absurdes (2000) and Épures (2004). Author of short-form hits ("Le Carnet à spirale", "Un homme heureux", "Oh! j'cours tout seul") and sophisticated scores, the Franco-American singer continues his work with surprising performances and studio successes such as Avatars (2008) and Stylus (2015).
