Born in Shenyang, Liaoning, China on December 15, 1996, Xu Geyang is a singer and songwriter who came to prominence in 2016 as a contestant on the first season of televised talent show Sing! China. While she became a fan favorite, there were controversies surrounding her private life including rumors of a sex tape with a Sing! China judge, which was revealed to be false. Xu Geyang remained a favorite with viewers although critics were less than kind to her vocal style. However, she persevered and came in fourth place on Sing! China. She released her first solo single, “Forever,” in May 2017 and followed it up with “Across the Pacific,” “Shelf,” and the reggae-influenced song “Chorn.” In May 2018, Xu Geyang’s released the single “Distorted,” which found the singer pursuing a more edgy rock direction. Further singles include 2019’s “Fake Rock” and 2022’s “Storm Calvary.” One of Xu Geyang’s most popular recordings remains her cover of “Ten Thousand Times of Sadness,” originally recorded by Escape Plan in 2011.
