Young Fathers

Young Fathers aka Alloysious Massaquoi (born in Liberia), Kayus Bankole (born in Edinburgh), and Graham "G" Hastings (born in Edinburgh) formed in Edinburgh in 2008 and cut their teeth performing in nightclubs as teenagers before releasing their first single "Straight Back on It." They introduced their inimitable blend of hip-hop and electronic indie on their first EP Tape One in November 2011 and for their second EP, Tape Two, won the Scottish Album of the Year Award. The trio went to number 35 in the UK with their debut album Dead in 2014, which also won the 2014 Mercury Prize. Their second studio album White Men Are Black Men Too was released on Big Dada in 2015 and charted at number 41 in the UK, with their third album Cocoa Sugar, released via Ninja Tune, winning the Scottish Album of the Year Award in 2018 and reaching number 28 in the UK. The band returned from a hiatus in 2023 with their fourth studio album Heavy Heavy, also released on Ninja Tune, zooming all the way to number seven on the UK albums chart. The band were featured on the FIFA 19 and FIFA 23 soundtracks, with the songs "Border Girl" and "Rice" respectively.
