Young the Giant are a Californian indie band who formed in 2004, originally known as The Jakes, the name being an acronym of the band's first names. When they formed the band were still studying at various schools and due to problems co-ordinating diaries around their studying commitments some members of the band found it hard to juggle their school lives with their aspirations to become professional musicians. This led to some personnel changes until finally in 2009 the band settled into their current line-up and changed the name to Young the Giant. During 2010 the band busied themselves on recording their self-titled debut album and touring as support to the bands Minus the Bear and Steel Train. The album was produced by Joe Chiccarelli of Sunset Studios (producer for The Shins, The Strokes and other well known alternative bands). The group 's first single 'My Body' was aired on various US and European TV shows and went on to peak at number five in the Billboard Alternative Songs Chart. By the time the band released their second album 'Mind Over Matter' in 2014 the group had established themselves on the US indie music scene and the album reached number seven in the US Album Charts.
