Yunalis binti Mat Zara'ai, who goes by the name Yuna, is a Malaysian pop and R&B singer-songwriter who attained international fame after she moved to Los Angeles in 2011. Born in Kedah in the north-western part of Peninsular Malaysia, she learned to play the guitar and began writing songs as a child. She released a self-titled EP in 2008, won a regional music competition and released another EP, 'Decorate', in 2010. An eponymous full album in 2012 hit number 19 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. She followed with 'Nocturnal' (2013), which peaked at number 27 on the Heatseekers chart and 'Chapters' which also went to number five on the Heatseekers chart, number eight on the Top R&B Albums chart and number 16 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in 2016. The track 'Crush' with American rapper Usher topped the Malaysia singles chart and went to number three on Billboard's Adult R&B Songs chart, number 21 on the Hot R&B Songs chart and number 22 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. The track 'Best Love' went to number two on the Adult R&B Songs chart and number 19 on the R&B/Hip-hop Airplay chart. She has performed internationally and appeared at Lollapalooza and the Soul Train Music Awards. Her recordings have been featured in movies such as 'Savages' (2012) and television shows including 'Grey's Anatomy'. Her 2019 schedule has included appearances in Amsterdam, London and Los Angeles. In 2019 Yuna released the single 'Forevermore' with a video shot in her homeland, with the track to appear on an album released later in 2019.
