The US rapper Yung L.A. was born Leland Austin in Atlanta, Georgia in 1986. Although the artist had a platinum-selling debut single in 2008 with `Ain't I', his subsequent career has been marred by controversy and legal and artistic issues. Following the success of 'Ain't I', Austin's follow-up singles and mixtapes failed to make an impression on the charts and in 2011 he was dropped by his label Interscope. Shortly afterwards Austin was involved in a bizarre incident where he had the logo of the record label Duct Tape Entertainment tattooed on his face, the inference being that Austin had signed a deal with the label. Duct Tape's CEO then went on record denying the rapper had signed to the label, a statement which damaged Austin's credibility within the notoriously image-conscious hip-hop community of Georgia. After his rap career stalled Austin was arrested on drug charges and is currently incarcerated serving a jail sentence for burglary.
