Yuni Shara

Yuni Shara is an accomplished Indonesian singer, known for her nostalgic and emotive musical style. Born as Wahyu Setyaning Budi in Batu, East Java on June 3, 1972, she is the elder sister of the renowned Indonesian singer Krisdayanti. Shara's career began in 1987, at the age of 15, when she participated in the music festival Festival Bintang Radio & Televisi, winning 2nd place. Two years later, in 1989, she participated in the same festival and won, leading to a record deal with the Billboard Indonesia label. Her debut album Jatuh Cinta Lagi was released in 1990, followed by follow-up records Hilang Permataku in 1991 and Salah Tingkah in 1992. Her career peaked with the release of Mengapa Tiada Maaf in 1995, with the album selling 1.5 million copies and certified 4 x Platinum, receiving 3 further platinum records for her performance on the Indonesian soundtrack to martial arts TV series Return of the Condor Heroes. Despite being recognised as a popular performer of Keroncong music, Shara became gradually unable to compete with newer pop groups that appealed to young audiences, however after an extended hiatus followed by a modicum of success with 2009 album Jalan Terbaik, Shara returned with "Cinta Ini", a duet with former partner Raffi Ahmad in 2011, releasing another three consecutive albums between 2016 and 2017; Permataku, Sala Tingkah and Kasmaran as well as several non-album singles. In 2022, she collaborated with Indonesian artists Laleilmanino on dance track “Sinaran” followed by “Tanda-Tanda” and a cover of popular Indonesian ballad “Negeri Di Awan”, released on December 22.
