The American rap-punk band Zebrahead was formed in La Habra, California, in 1996 by guitarist Greg Bergdorf, drummer Ed Udhus, bassist Ben Osmundson, and singer/rhythm guitarist Justin Mauriello. Heavily influenced by the post-hardcore and punk rock music scene of the early 90s, the group slowly began incorporating elements from hip-hop into their songs. After bringing rapper Ali Tabatabaee on board, Zebrahead issued its self-titled first full-length in 1998, followed closely by their major-label debut Waste of Mind later that year. Their third album, Playmate of the Year, appeared in 2000 and peaked at Number 4 on the US Top Heatseekers chart. Following a series of lineup changes, Zebrahead ditched their rap influences in favor of a more aggressive punk sound and toured extensively throughout Japan, eventually growing a substantial fanbase there. Albums like MFZB (2003), Waste of MFZB (2004), or Broadcast to the World (2006) all cracked the Top 10 of the Oricon charts and enjoyed great popularity in Japan, with the latter receiving gold certification by the RIAJ. Over the next few years, the band focused their efforts exclusively on the Japanese market, delivering well-received studio efforts such as Phoenix (2008), Panty Raid (2009), Get Nice! (2011), and Call Your Friends (2013), their last album to feature founding member Greg Bergdorf. In 2015, the band released their twelfth studio LP Walk the Plank, the compilation Greatest Hits? – Volume 1, and the EP Out of Control featuring Man with a Mission, which hit Number 2 on the Oricon charts. This was followed by another compilation titled The Bonus Brothers in 2017, and by their thirteenth album Brain Invaders in 2019. In 2021, co-lead vocalist and guitarist Matty Lewis left the group and was replaced by Adrian Estrella, who made his first appearance in the EP III (2021). Ichi-go Ichi-e, their seventh extended play, saw the light in 2022 and went to Number 93 on the Billboard Japan Albums chart.
