Ricardo Valdez Valentine, who goes by the name 6lack, is an American hip-hop and R&B performer who was born in Baltimore and grew up in Atlanta where as a teenager he joined in rap battles with other hip-hop performers such as Young Thug. He released tracks via the Internet and spent time with the Atlanta-based Spillage Village music collective. He toured with Canadian R&B singer The Weeknd, collaborated with other performers such as J. Cole, Khalid, Ty Dolla $ign and Future and earned three Grammy Award nominations. His 2017 debut album 'Free 6lack' went to number five on Billboard's Top Rap Albums Chart, number six on the Top R&B Albums Chart, number eleven on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and number 34 on the Billboard 200. The track 'Prblms' reached number 23 on the Hot Rap Songs Chart and number 34 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. The recording was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album and 'Prblms' was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance. His second release, 'East Atlanta Love Letter' (2018) reached number one on the Top R&B Albums Chart, number two on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart, number three on the Billboard 200 and number 19 on the UK Albums Chart. The title track from the album featuring Future went to number eight on the R&B Streaming Songs Chart and number eleven on the Hot R&B Songs Chart. 'Switch' reached number 13 on the Hot R&B Songs Chart and number 14 on the R&B Streaming Songs Chart. 'Loaded Gun' peaked at number 15 on the Hot R&B Songs and the R&B Streaming Songs charts, 'Unfair' hit number 16 on the Hot R&B Songs and 'Let Her Go' went to number 17 on the R&B Streaming Songs Chart and number 19 on the Hot R&B Songs. 'Sorry' peaked at number 21 on the Hot R&B Songs Chart and number 24 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. 'Pretty Little Fears' (2018) featuring J. Cole was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Performance and reached number 35 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. 'Seasons' featuring Khalid went to number 23 on the R&B Streaming Songs chart. His 2018 single 'OTW' with Khalid and Ty Dolla $ign reached number six on the Hot R&B Songs Chart, number seven on the R&B Streaming Songs Chart and number 32 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. He featured on Kehlani's 2019 single 'RPG' which hit number 20 on the Hot R&B Songs Chart.
