Formed in March 2004 in Yokohama, Kanagawa, 9mm Parabellum Bullet is a Japanese rock band whose dynamic, metal-influenced sound earned the group a run of Top 10 singles during the 2010s. Vocalist/guitarist Takuro Sugawara, guitarist/pianist Yoshimitsu Taki, bassist Kazuhiko Nakamura, and drummer Chihiro Kamijo released Talking Machine, an independent collection of demos, in October 2004, then returned in 2005 with the EP Gjallarhorn. After releasing a second EP, Phantomime, in 2006, 9mm Parabellum Bullet reached the Top 10 for the first time with the band's debut album, Termination. Released in 2007, the album reached Number 10 on Japan's Oricon Albums Chart and was followed by 2008's Vampire, which climbed to Number 2. Two years later, the band hit Number 4 with its third full-length record, Revolutionary, then charted at Number 6 with 2011's Movement. 2013's Dawning and 2017's Babel were both Top 10 successes, as well. Meanwhile, 9mm Parabellum Bullet also enjoyed success on Oricon Singles Chart, where 2010's "Inochi no Zenmai," 2011's "Atarashii Hikari," and 2012 "Heart ni Hi wo Tsukete" all cracked the Top 10. After spending more than a decade working with major labels like EMI Music Japan and Universal Music Japan, 9mm Parabellum Bullet signed with the indie label Sazanga Records in 2016. Deep Blue, the band's final album of the 2020s, reached Number 18 in 2019, followed by the Top 20 hit Tightrope in 2021. Their 10th album You Need Freedom to Be You was released on October 23rd, 2024.
