Base Ball Bear is an alternative rock band formed in Tokyo, Japan in 2001. Founded by guitarist / vocalist Yusuke Koide, bassist Shiori Sekine, guitarist Shohei Yuasa, and drummer Daisuke Horinouchi, the group members came together while they were all attending Tokai University Urayasu High School. Also known as Bebobe and BBB, they began their career by performing at school festivals. They released their first mini-album, Evening Generation, in 2003, and followed that up with a few singles including a split release with Bacon. Their debut independently released album, High Color Times, was issued in 2005. The group signed with Toshiba EMI and unleashed several singles and the Girl Friend mini album before releasing the album C at the end of 2006. The album reached Number 28 on the Japanese Albums chart. They finally reached the Top 10 when their 2009 album (What Is The) Love &Pop climbed to Number 9. Further Top Ten albums include Cypress Girls (Number 10 in 2010), New Breath (Number 5 in 2011), and Age 29 (Number 8 in 2014). In 2015, Base Ball Bear issued C2, the sequel to their major label debut. The next year brought several celebrations – their 15th anniversary plus the 10th anniversary of the release of C – but it also brought the departure of guitarist Shohei Yuasa. Kougen (2017) was their first album released as a trio and their final album for a major label. They set up their own DGP Records label and issued the album C3 in 2020, which was followed the next year by the album Diary Key (2021). Throughout the band’s career, they issued over 20 singles including the Top 10 hits “Love Mathematics” (Number 5), “Gods Are Looking At You” (Number 10), “Breeeeze Girl” (Number 7) as well as acclaimed singles such as and “I Want To Be the Sea, Part 3.”
