UK hip-hop duo A1 x J1 comprises Phineas Waweru and Joshua Somerkun, two British teenagers from different parts of the country who met on the Houseparty app during 2020. After sharing ideas over the internet, they came together for their debut single, "Latest Trends" in February 2021, which shot to Number 2 in the UK and was given the remix treatment by Manchester rap favorite Aitch and US rapper A Boogie wit da Hoodie. They linked with UK singer and rapper Deno for their next single "Baby", which was also released in 2021 but only went to Number 98 in the UK. That same year, the pair were also featured with S-X on "Know You" by KSI and on "Coming for You" by SwitchOTR. 2022 saw the duo re-establish a firm footing on the UK charts with a Number 11 position for their "Night Away (Dance)" single, a reimagining of J-Lo's "On the Floor," which also featured Tion Wayne.
