Formed in Carmarthen in 2015, the Adwaith trio's distinctive features include being female and singing in Welsh. Made up of childhood friends Hollie Singer (vocals) and Gwenllian Anthony (bass, keyboards, mandolin), as well as Heledd Owen (drums), the band began rehearsing between university courses and performed at local club The Parrot, before appearing at the Welsh Language Music Day festival in 2017, with a repertoire of short, incisive songs. Noticed by BBC Wales and programmed at Portmeirion's N° 6 festival, Adwaith scoured the stages and released his Welsh Music Prize-winning debut album Melyn in October 2018. Returning to Welsh venues and festivals throughout the year, the trio tour the UK in summer 2019, returning home for a performance at the Rockaway Beach Festival. After a debut appearance at Glastonbury Festival in June 2022, Adwaith unveil their second album Bato Mato the following month, winning the Welsh Music Prize for the second time in a row. Recorded between Wales, Lisbon and the Hebrides in Scotland, the third and double album Solas was released in February 2025.
