Romanian singer Alexandra Stan is a euro-pop artist who rose to fame on the back of her 2011 dance hit 'Mr. Saxobeat'. She was born in the city of Constanta and from the age of 15 had several attempts at making a career in the music business until finally she was discovered singing in a karaoke bar by Romanian producers Andrei Nemirschi and Marcel Prodan. Her debut single 'Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)' launched her career in her native Romania although she was the subject of some criticism for the provocative nature of her act. Under the guidance of Nemirschi and Prodan her performing career remained on track, especially when 'Mr. Saxobeat ' became an international hit topping charts throughout mainland Europe. Unfortunately the arrangement with her producers began to unravel when in 2013 she filed charges against Prodan for blackmail, battery, deception and tax evasion and this resulted in him receiving a suspended jail sentence for battery and being ordered to pay compensation to Stan. After a brief hiatus following the legal proceedings Stan continued to build her career, particularly among Japanese and European pop audiences.
