Alok

Real name Alok Achkar Peres Petrillo, DJ Alok was born in Goiânia, the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Goiás, on August 26, 1991, to parents who were themselves DJs, Swarup and Ekanta, pioneers of psychedelic trance and creators of Universo Parallelo, an electronic music festival in Bahia. He began playing music at the age of 12 with his twin brother Bhaskar Petrillo, before embarking on a solo career at 19. From 2012, he released tracks that would soon earn him a solid reputation on the Brazilian electronic scene, from "Superstition" to "Who Gives", via "Arabe", "Play My Game", and "House Hop". In 2016, his music can be heard on the soundtrack of the Netflix film XOXO , and he gets his first real commercial hit with "Hear Me Now" (#54 in Brazil and #17 in France), recorded with Bruno Martini and Zeeba. Other hits followed on the international scene, such as "Fuego" (no. 173 in France in 2017) with Bhaskar, and of course on the local scene, such as "Never Let Me Go" (no. 87), again with Bruno Martini and Zeeba, but also "Big Jet Plane" (no. 76) with Mathieu Koss and "Ocean" (no. 81) with Zeeba and Iro. In 2017, he released his first EP, Alok Presents Brazilian Bass Part 1, and in the following years devoted himself to recording singles such as "Próximo Amor" (no. 57 in 2019), "It Don't Matter" (no. 48 in 2021), "My Head (Can't Get You Out)" (no. 37 the same year) and "Run Into Trouble" with Bastille (no. 31 in 2022). The year 2023 also got off to a strong start, with the first weeks of the year seeing the release of "Work with My Love" (#94), in collaboration with British artist James Arthur. In 2024, he released the album The Future Is Ancestral, recorded in collaboration with indigenous Brazilian musicians. The same year, he also unveiled the single "Looking for Love " as a duet with Anitta.
