Amara La Negra

Diana Danelys De Los Santos (born on October 4, 1990), aka Amara La Negra, is an American singer, actress, and TV personality of Dominican descent mostly known for her defiant stance against race stereotypes and machismo in the Latin music scene. Despite first gaining recognition on the VH1 reality show Love & Hip Hop: Miami in 2018, De Los Santos’ career dates back to her appearance on Univisión’s Spanish-language program Sábado Gigante when she was just 4 years old. During her teenage years, she became a backup dancer for salsa legends Celia Cruz and Tito Puente, and formed the short-lived all-girl group Amara, a pseudonym she would later adopt as a solo artist. In 2013, she made her official debut with the singles “Quítate la ropa” and “Ayy,” a dembow jam that became a smash hit throughout Latin America. Further singles “Pum Pum” (2014), “Sé Qué Soy” (2016) and “Pa’ Tu Cama Ni Loca” (2017) helped De Los Santos establish herself as a bona fide hitmaker and enjoyed a great deal of success in the Latin market. Her big breakthrough moment came in 2018 when she was cast to appear on the show Love & Hip Hop: Miami, prompting a record deal with BMG shortly after. Preceded by the standalone hit single “What a Bam Bam,” which peaked at Number 8 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Digital Song Sales, studio debut Unstoppable saw the light in 2019 and was followed by the premiere of her 2020 web series “Grind Pretty, My Mom is the Bomb,” where she championed female empowerment and entrepreneurship.
