Ana Paula Hipólito Cañas (September 14, 1980), or simply Ana Cañas, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter. Born and raised in São Paulo, she studied performing arts before deciding to pursue a career in music. Amor e Caos, her studio debut, was released in 2007 via Sony Music. The album elicited praises from critics and included the Caetano Veloso cover “Coração Vagabundo,” which was featured on the soap opera Beleza Pura. Preceded by the smash hit “Esconderijo,” named one of the best songs of the year by Rolling Stone Brazil, her sophomore effort, Hein? arrived in 2009. That same year, she landed a feature on singer-songwriter Nando Reis’ “Pra Você Guardei O Amor,” a romantic ballad that achieved nationwide success. In the following years, Ana Cañas delivered a highly successful string of albums such as Volta (2012), Coração Inevitável (2013), Tô na Vida (2015), and Todxs (2018), which earned her a Latin Grammy nomination in the category of Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album. During the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, Ana Cañas jumped on the live streaming bandwagon and paid homage to legendary Brazilian composer Belchior through a performance made possible via crowdfunding.
