Mexican singer Ana Gabriel has had a long and distinguished career during which she has had hits in three distinctly different genres - Latin pop, rancheras and rock en Españo. Her climb to stardom began after winning third place in the prestigious OTI Festival performing an orchestral version of the pop ballad 'Ay Amor'. The song topped the charts in Mexico and remained at number one for 14 consecutive weeks on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks Chart. During the 1990s she released an album almost every year. She had one of her best known number one hits, 'Cosas del Amor', in 1992, a song she performed with Vikki Carr, the well-known Mexican-American pop singer. She has recorded more than 20 studio albums and released numerous compilations and although she has never won a Grammy Award she has been nominated on five separate occasions. She has won numerous Lo Nuestro Awards including Pop Album of the Year for 'Tierra de Nadie' in 1990 and for 'Quién Como Tú' in 1991 as well as Best Pop Female Artist four times.
