Angela Wiedl

Angela Wiedl (born March 16, 1967 in Munich) is a folk music singer from Germany. The artist comes from a musical family. Her parents Wilhelm and Irmengard Wiedl were well-known yodelers. Her brother Richard Wiedl made a career as an opera singer in the tenor range. Angela Wiedl was already singing with the Original Chiemgau Buam at the age of twelve. From 1981, she was a singer with the Tegernsee Alpine Quintet. Until the late 1980s, Angela Wiedl released seven albums with the group. In 1991, the singer launched her solo career with the album Santa Maria della Montagna. With the title "Doch des Herzklopfen, des verdank i dir", Angela Wiedl takes part in the 1992 Grand Prix of Folk Music. She came 12th and became known to a wider audience. Her 1993 album Meine schönsten Lieder reaches number 63 in the German charts and number 33 and gold status in Austria. in 1995, the singer took part in the Grand Prix of Folk Music again with the song "Wo sind die Zigeuner geblieben". This time she reached 10th place, and three years later she came 14th with "Wer die Heimat liebt". In 1996, Angela Wiedl took part in the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest together with Dalila Cernatescu on the pan flute. With the song "Echos", composed by Ralph Siegel, she finally reaches 3rd place. The artist regularly releases new albums and wins the Superhitparade der Volksmusik several times. In 2008, her best-of album Herzlich Willkommen - Ihre schönsten Lieder is released to mark her 30th stage anniversary. In her long career, Angela Wiedl has released almost 20 studio albums and various compilations. Her album Herzperlen is released in 2020. Angela Wiedl returns to her many fans in 2022 with the major retrospective Das Beste.
