De Randfichten are a German folk music group from Johanngeorgenstadt in the Ore Mountains, founded in 1992 by Thomas "Rups" Unger and Michael "Michl" Rostig. in 1997, Thomas "Lauti" Lauterbach joined the band and they changed their name to De Randfichten. The band's name refers to trees at the edge of the forest, which must be particularly hardy due to their exposed location. Their musical style combines traditional folk tunes from the Erzgebirge with modern elements, which earns them a wide following. Their breakthrough came in 2004 with the song "Lebt denn der alte Holzmichl noch?", which reached number 3 in the German singles charts and stayed in the top 100 for 56 weeks. Over the course of their career, De Randfichten released several albums, including "Do pfeift dr Fuchs" (1997), "s'Arzgebirg im Blut" (2002) and "Heja ho, de Randfichten sei do" (2004). Other successful singles include "De lustigen Holzhackerleit" and "Das kommt vom Rudern". in 2005, they represented Saxony at the Bundesvision Song Contest with the song "Jetzt geht die Party richtig los" and achieved sixth place with 71 points. The band undergoes personnel changes over the years. Thomas Unger leaves the group in 2014 and René "Schrödi" Schröder and Marion "de Pfeif" Frank join. De Randfichten are known for their rousing live performances and their ability to combine traditional folk music with modern sounds, which has won them numerous fans in Germany and beyond.
