With a modern sound caught halfway between heavy metal and hard rock, Any Given Sin maintained a heavy presence on the Billboard Rock Top 40 during the late 2010s and early 2020s. The band formed in California, Maryland, in 2012. Guitarist Mike Conner, frontman Vic Ritchie, bassist Rich Stephenson, and drummer Mike Showalter released their first EP, The Other Side, as an independent act in 2013. The Other Side earned comparisons to Shinedown, a band with whom Any Given Sin would often be associated, and was followed by a second EP, Forbidden, in 2015. After a short hiatus, the band returned in 2021 with "Another Life," "Dynamite," "Insidious," and "The Way I Say Goodbye," four singles that became popular not only on SiriusXM Octane, but also the Billboard charts. "Dynamite" reached number 40 on the Top 40 Radio Mainstream Rock Songs chart, with "Another Life" and "Insidious" both climbing to number 36. "The Way I Say Goodbye" peaked at number 25, given the band its highest chart placement yet. Two years later, "Dynamite" was released again, this time as a re-recorded version on the band's first full-length album, War Within. The new rendition, "Dynamite (2023 Version)," returned the band to the Mainstream Rock Songs chart, where it hit number 39.
