April Boy Regino is the artist name of Dennis Magloyuan Regino, the Filipino singer behind Pinoy pop songs like "Ye Ye Vonnel," "Paano ang Puso ko," "Di ko Kayang Tanggapin," and "Umiiyak ang Puso ko't Sumisigaw." He was born on April 9, 1961, in Marikina. He later joined two of his brothers to form April Boys in 1993, earning a hit with the group's debut single, "Sana'y Laging Magkapiling," before leaving the lineup in 1995 to release his first album as a solo artist. Entitled Umiiyak Ang Puso, the album went triple-platinum in South Korea. Its title track won an Awit Award for "Best Country Ballad Recording" later that year, and April Boy Regino released four additional albums — including Idol (1996) and Idol Ko, Idol Nato (1997) — during the remainder of the 1990s. 2000's Super Idol found him kickstarting another prolific decade, followed by albums like Philippine Idol (2002) and Ang Tunay Na Idol (2004). He struggled with several health issues during the 2010s, including prostate cancer and diabetic eye disease. These conditions gave way to chronic kidney disease, and April Boy Regino lost his health battles on November 29, 2020, at 59 years old. His songs continued to be popular amongst Filipino audiences, though, with "Ang Tanging Alay ko" reaching number 6 on the Top 100 Deezer - Philippines chart during the summer of 2023.
