Formed in 2000 in San Diego (California), As I Lay Dying went on to become a heavyweight of the extreme metal scene in the US, where they are highly regarded. Despite their modest beginnings with Beneath the Encasing of Ashes (2001) and Frail Words Collapse (2003), the metalcore unit rose through the ranks to become major players on the scene. As I Lay Dying went on to release Shadows Are Security in 2005 before exploding with the excellent An Ocean Between Us (2007) and The Powerless Rise (2010). These last two albums were among the top ten best-selling albums in the US at the time of their release. Buoyed by this reputation, As I Lay Dying delivered Awakened in September 2012, worthy of its predecessors, and following a brief hiatus between 2014-2017, made a powerful return in 2019 with Shaped By Fire. Five years later, they released their eighth studio album Through Storms Ahead, produced by Phil Sgrosso. As of 2024, vocalist Tim Lambesis is the sole remaining band member.
